Wet weather can frustrate even the most seasoned traveller. While the Western Downs is lucky to enjoy plenty of sunshine, we can also deliver the occasional downpour. Read on to discover our favourite activities to prevent cabin-fever – for kids young and old! 

1. Go to the movies 

Western Downs Cinemas offer new release movies, with a state-of-the-art projector and surround sound. We also have wheelchair accessible seating and cater to people who have difficulty seeing and/or hearing which may benefit from assistive devices to improve their overall cinema experience.

2. Read a book (+ more) 

Our libraries provide more than just books, with public access computers, free wifi, toys, gaming and lifestyle programming for all ages. The library is a great place to sit, relax and dry out for a while and with 9 branches across the region there’s bound to be one near you. 3. Get Creative

Spend some time exploring the creativity of the Western Downs communities by visiting one of our many art galleries. If you’re feeling inspired, pop down to the Chinchilla Creative Centre every Friday morning (9am-12pm) and create your own work of art – all ages are welcome to join the fun.

4. Meandarra ANZAC Memorial Museum 

While there are numerous museums across the Western Downs that are all worth the visit, Meandarra has the benefit of being fully enclosed, making the weather outside insignificant. A nationally recognised museum that showcases the bravery and sacrifice of the Anzacs, take the opportunity to learn more about this important part of our history.

5. Get active (or not) 

For something a little different, why not take the opportunity to try a dance, exercise or yoga class at one of the fantastic local studios across the region. Xpression Dance Academy Dance & Yoga Classes | Xpression Dance Academy | Chinchilla offers a variety of classes, from the traditional ballet and tap to pole dancing, cheerleading and hoop. All ages and abilities are welcome.  

On the opposite end of the spectrum, Lisa’s Holistic Beauty and Yoga Facebook offers ‘real yoga for real people with real bodies’, including low impact chair yoga. No prior experience is needed.
