The Big Blade – Bell

In the heart of Bell, you will find the Big Blade from Coopers Gap Wind Farm. The Coopers Gap Wind Farm is located on the traditional lands of the Barunggam, Western Wakka Wakka and Wulli Wulli People #2.

The blade weighs 22339kg, measuring 67.2m in length and was transported from wind farm to site by Qube Heavy Lift in 2024. This unique attraction showcases the regions renewables energy sector. To see the size and magnitude of Coopers Gap Wind Farm, follow the Bunya Highway from Bell to Niagara Road and proceed along the Kingaroy- Jandowae Road.

Bell is a key gateway to the region and the Big Blade offers an added attraction for community and tourists to see while visiting the Western Downs Region. While visiting Bell make sure to also visit the Bell Bunya Community Centre, home to Bell’s visitor information centre, art gallery and library.

The Western Downs is proudly trademarked as the Energy Capital of Queensland, with coal, gas, solar, wind and hydrogen operations in region.

Fuelling the energy sector’s growth is the combination of the Western Downs’ geography and environmental conditions, along with existing transmission infrastructure. This has meant there are opportunities for energy providers to link to interstate connectors and transmission lines.

As a result, the region is a prime destination for renewable energy and has seen the development and construction of several solar farms and wind farms, as well as a hydrogen demonstration plant.
