The Western Downs Region boasts a large variety of sport and recreation facilities.
Modern start of the art aquatic centres, pristine waters for perfect skiing conditions, football, cricket and soccer fields.
In every town through the region, you’ll find manicured parks and open spaces that are ideal for going for a run or a game with the kids. Pack a picnic to enjoy under shady trees or a BBQ in the cooler early evening.
Many of our sporting clubs welcome visitors, so you’ll be welcome to play a game of bowls or hit off for nine holes on the greens of our golf courses. Sporting clubs are one of the many community groups that bring locals and visitors together.
Our Western Downs race days draw visitors and competitors from all over Queensland. Our annual calendar is packed with picnic races and race meetings every month, held in Dalby, Chinchilla, Miles, Tara, Wandoan, Jandowae, Bell or Warra.
Our golf courses in Dalby and Miles (18 holes) and Chinchilla, Jandowae, Bell, Tara, Meandarra and Inglestone (nine holes) offer well-maintained greens and clubhouses where the beer is cold and visitors are welcome.
Lace up your joggers and join the locals on the weekly 5km Park Runs in Dalby and Miles every Saturday morning. The runs start at 7am next to the Jimbour and Edward Street intersection, Dalby and Moraby Park, Warrego Highway, Miles. It’s free to enter, but you’ll need to register online via www.parkrun.com.au
The sports of rodeos and campdraft in Australia were born in the bush when outback stockmen and drover tested their horsemanship skills. You’ll find rodeos large and small throughout the year, including the NRCA National Finals Rodeo in Dalby every October, as well as exhilarating polocrosse competition in Wandoan and Tara.
